Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha was released from Tihar Jail in New Delhi around 9.30 pm after completing legal formalities, despite the Supreme Court granting her bail on Tuesday afternoon (August 27, 2024).

As she came out of the jail, she was moved to see her husband Anil Kumar, brother KT Rama Rao and son Aditya. She hugged her son and husband and kissed the hand of her brother, who was the first to receive her. With tears streaming down her cheeks, an emotional Kavitha said she was moved to see her son, brother and husband after more than five months. BRS MP T. Harish Rao and other senior politicians were also present.

Leaving her son alone for five months was difficult and those responsible for her being sent to jail would get it back with interest, she said, as BRS supporters chanted “Jai Telangana” slogans.

Ms. Kavitha said her case was purely politically motivated and the whole country knows that she was put in jail for political reasons. She said she had made no mistake and would fight her way through. “I am KCR's daughter and can never do anything wrong. By arresting me, they (apparently meaning the BJP) have made BRS and KCR even more indestructible.”

Later, she went to the BRS party office in New Delhi where the party's MPs, MLAs and MLCs were already there to receive her. A visibly relieved Kavitha offered sweets to her son, Mr. KTR and others. A large number of BRS supporters also turned up at the party office. She thanked the party cadres for standing behind her during this time of crisis and said she will never forget it.

In conversation with The HinduA senior politician said that Ms. Kavitha would arrive in Hyderabad on Wednesday afternoon. The party would hold a rally to welcome her. She would first meet her parents at their house in Nandi Nagar and later may proceed to the party office.
