Man charged with murder of toddler

DELHI, NY (WBNG) — The Delaware County District Attorney's Office filed murder charges Tuesday in a case involving the death of a 3-year-old child.

James D. Christ, 27, of Deposit, NY, was initially charged with manslaughter in connection with the toddler's death. Prosecutors confirmed to 12 News that the charge has been upgraded to murder.

Christ was also charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment.

On August 22, he was charged with this crime.

On May 11, New York State Police responded to a call to a location on Fair Street in Deposit after the toddler was found unresponsive.

The indictment states that Christ knowingly acted in a manner that caused harm to the toddler and that the toddler's death was intentional.

In particular, with regard to the charge of endangering the welfare of a child, the prosecution noted that he was facing two charges because another toddler, also three years old, was involved in the case.

Prosecutors noted that he pleaded not guilty in the case. He was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail pending his trial.
