Kouri Richins faces trial for her husband's death

CNN

Kouri Richins, the Utah widow accused of killing her husband with a fentanyl overdose and later writing a children's book about grief, will face murder and other charges, Utah District Court Judge Richard Mrazik ruled Tuesday.

Richins is charged with several serious crimes in connection with the murder, including aggravated murder, trafficking in controlled substances and various fraud and forgery offenses. She is also accused of attempting to kill her husband a few weeks earlier on Valentine's Day.

Mrazik said there was sufficient probable cause to charge Richins with all 11 counts. The widow, who sat next to her defense attorneys, showed no visible emotion as the judge ruled that she would go on trial.

Richins protested her innocence. On Tuesday she pleaded not guilty to all charges in court.

The trial is scheduled to begin on April 28. The judge has scheduled a preliminary hearing for the afternoon of September 23.
