Prince Harry comes to New York City to fight climate change

This year, Prince Harry has expanded his travel schedule to advance the work of Archewell, the foundation he founded with his wife in 2021. Meghan Markle. In September, Harry plans to travel to New York City for Climate Week, the annual environmental event series that coincides with the United Nations General Assembly. During his trip, he will also attend events hosted by some of his patron organizations, including two related to his late mother, Princess Diana.

“During the high-level UN General Assembly week and Climate Week in New York City, Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, will be in the city to promote a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives,” a spokesman for the prince said. “He will attend events with African Parks, the HALO Trust, the Diana Award and Travalyst.”

The HALO Trust, a charity focused on demining in conflict zones, counted Diana among its most ardent supporters. In 1997, she walked through a demining zone in Angola to raise awareness of the issue. Harry has been a supporter since 2010 and, during a tour of southern Africa in 2019, returned to the site of his mother's demining walk, which had become a busy urban area named “Princess Diana Street”.

Harry's commitment to the other charities he will visit during the trip also dates back to before his exit from his role as a working royal in 2020. In addition to his brother Prince William, Harry has supported the Diana Award, which recognises young people who are working to improve their local communities, for more than a decade. Even after leaving his role as a working royal, Harry has continued to send messages of support to the award winners. Travalyst is a non-profit organisation promoting sustainable travel that Harry co-founded in 2020, months before his departure from the UK.

Coincidentally, Harry's brother Prince William visited New York City for Climate Week in September 2023, when he attended a summit for his Earthshot Prize and sat on a panel alongside Bloomberg. The prize's third annual innovation summit is scheduled to take place in Manhattan on September 24, but William has not yet announced any plans to attend in person.
