Reedsburg area students accused of blowing air horns and lighting lights on houses

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The Sauk County Sheriff's Office has released more information after nine Reedsburg-area students were charged with disorderly conduct.

The Sauk County Sheriff's Office reported that it is investigating several incidents that occurred in the western part of the county between 9 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. earlier this month. These incidents included sounding air horns outside people's homes, turning on lights on homes, knocking on windows and ringing doorbells.

Officers increased patrols to locate the individuals and reported seeing a suspicious vehicle at approximately 10:20 p.m. on August 11. Officers stopped the vehicle and reported that several juveniles were inside. Officers determined that the juveniles in the vehicle were allegedly connected to the reported behaviors and were part of a larger group involved in these alleged actions.

The deputies questioned several students, which led to the summons of nine of them.

The sheriff's office said all other rumors that such behavior had occurred were unconfirmed.

On Sunday, the sheriff's office announced that the nine Reedsburg-area teens were cited after reports of harassment of the Amish community. Sheriff Chip Meister confirmed that the nine cited were related to an investigation by the Reedsburg School District that led to the cancellation of two of the first two college football games of the season.

The sheriff's office did not say how many of the students involved were on the football team.

In a statement Tuesday, the Reedsburg School District said it would not release information about the individual students involved, their alleged misconduct or their disciplinary actions. The district did, however, say that not all of the students allegedly involved in the incident were on the football team.

“It is an understatement to say that we were disappointed to learn of the allegations against students enrolled in the school district and participating in our athletic program,” the Reedsburg School District said. “Please understand that not all students participating in the football program were involved in these incidents. The alleged conduct is contrary to our school district values and does not reflect our school community as a whole.”

It was also noted that none of the incidents occurred on district property or while students were participating in district activities.

The district also told residents that it has the right to take disciplinary action against students in the athletic program for misconduct outside of district premises or during activities, but not through suspension or expulsion.
