Inmate stabbed to death in Fulton County Jail, Sheriff's Office says

ATLANTA, Georgia (Atlanta News First) – An inmate was stabbed to death at the Fulton County Jail, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The stabbing sparked a heavy police presence outside the Rice Street prison on Tuesday afternoon.

The sheriff's office said the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. The identity of the inmate was not released.

Just last week, the Georgia Senate Subcommittee on the Fulton County Jail released its preliminary findings after a seven-month investigation into the crisis at the troubled facility.

Conditions at the prison have been questioned for years. Since the beginning of 2023, 13 people have died in the county's detention center.
