Star Trek Dr. Crusher's reunion with her son Wesley reveals a tragic turn for Wil Wheaton's Fan favorite character. Wesley left his family and friends behind to join the mysterious travelers and has not seen them since. In Star Trek #22, Doctor Crusher and the crew of the Theseus Journey into a mysterious new dimension with a connection to the Travelers and uncover the tragic turn in Wesley's life.


Star Trek #22 was written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly and drawn by Megan Levens. Doctor Crusher, knowing that Wesley is present somewhere in the Pleroma, goes to his office. Wesley comes in and she is stunned by how much he has aged. Doctor Crusher engages her son in conversation, asking him questions about the universe and his love life. He tells her that he has been too busy with work to devote himself to love and that he has missed her every single moment.

Wesley tells her she has to go, but not before giving her a mysterious ink pen.

After his surprising comeback in

Season two finale, Wesley returned in season two of
Star Trek: Prodigy.


Wesley Crusher, played by Wil Wheaton, began as a child prodigy on board the Pursuebefore being promoted to acting ensign and finally to Starfleet cadet. However, Wesley became disillusioned with his studies and longed for something more. Salvation came in the form of the Travelers, guardians of time and space in the Star Trek Universe. The group had shown great interest in Wesley from the beginning and had Star Trek: The Next Generation last season. We didn’t see anything of Wesley until Picard season two finale and even then it was just a tantalizing taster.


Despite Wesley's fleeting appearance in the episode, the season revealed a lot about the Travelers and their underlings, the Overseers. The life of a Traveler is not easy, as they work diligently to keep the universe flowing properly. They can travel across timelines and universes and seemingly answer only to the gods. Wheaton himself has penned a Wesley Crusher story for the 2022 episode. Star Trek #400, which states that travelers are not allowed to visit former relatives and acquaintances. In the story, Wesley bucked this trend by visiting Picard and telling him that he was slowly dying.

While Star Trek #22 gives no further information, but instead lets Wesley speak in riddles. The reunion of mother and child is bittersweet. Doctor Crusher has wondered about Wesley's status for years. He was forbidden to communicate with her, which only added to her worries. When they finally met for the first time in years, it did not go as she expected, as Wesley's life with the Travelers had been hard. His obligations have kept him from love and normal human relationships, which Wil Wheaton's Star Trek character a tragic, heartbreaking level.
