Nollywood producer apologizes for the tragic death of Junior Pope

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Adanma Luke has publicly apologised following the tragic death of actor Junior Pope and four crew members.
The incident occurred on April 10, 2024, when their boat capsized in the River Niger in Asaba, Delta State while en route to a filming location.
In a now viral video shared on social media on Monday, Adanma Luke tearfully expressed her grief and took responsibility for the unfortunate event that took the lives of Junior Pope and others. She acknowledged the widespread reactions and pain the incident caused and asked for forgiveness from Nigerians.
“I came to say I'm sorry. I'm sorry Nigerians. From what people are saying, I took your loved ones away from you. I'm so sad that this happened on my film set. As much as I try to be strong, I don't see myself as strong,” she said visibly emotionally in the video.
She continued, “I am so sad that they had to work for me when the incident happened. But I am not God. It was fate. Many people dragged me along. Nigerians, I am not well again. I don't know what is happening to me. I did not plan what happened to Junior Pope and the crew members. Please forgive me.”

The ill-fated film The Other Side of Life was produced by Adanma Luke and starred Junior Pope. The tragedy sparked widespread grief and criticism, with many questioning the safety measures on the film sets.
Adanma Luke’s apology has resonated deeply with many Nigerians as she continues to grapple with the loss and immense responsibility she feels for the incident.
