Jesse Walters, 18, who was 17 at the time of the crime, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with two years suspended. In court, prosecutors said Walters attacked a woman parked in front of the Rapid City Red Lobster in December of last year.

They said Walters struck the victim in the head with a gun and did so again to her husband as he came out of the restaurant to help her. Prosecutors said Walters then stole the vehicle and led police on a chase while intoxicated by methamphetamine, fentanyl, oxycodone and alcohol.

Judge Jeffrey Connolly said the incident warranted a significant sentence, imposed a restraining order and credited him with 259 days of jail time already served.
