Children's book author Kouri Richins is on trial for the murder of her husband

Kouri Richins goes to court.

A judge in Utah ruled on August 27 that the children's book author will stand trial on charges she faces in connection with her husband. Eric Richins' death, according to NBC News.

Judge of the Third District Richard Mrazik stated, according to the source, that prosecutors have sufficient suspicion to charge Kouri. Kouri is accused of attempting to kill her partner with a poisoned sandwich on Valentine's Day 2022 before allegedly murdering him with a drink laced with fentanyl a month later.

And that's not all the judge noted during the hearing. Mrazik also set a date: the month-long trial is scheduled to begin on April 28, 2025.

As for Kouri, the 34-year-old pleaded not guilty to 11 charges during his August 27 court hearing, including aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, mortgage fraud, insurance fraud and forgery.

After the hearing, Kouri’s lawyers said Kathy Nester, Wendy Lewis And Alexander Ramos said they “respect” the judge’s decision to bring the case to trial.

“We firmly believe that the charges against Kouri do not stand up to thorough scrutiny and are confident the jury will find the same,” the defense said in an Aug. 27 statement to E! News. “Our focus now is to ensure justice is done through a fair trial. We are committed to defending Kouri against these charges and are fully confident that the truth will come out.”
