Man arrested for drug charges in Wayne County

WAYNE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A man was arrested on drug charges in the Fort Gay area Tuesday. An investigation resulted in the seizure of nearly six pounds of marijuana and other substances, Wayne County Sheriff Rick Thompson said.

Clyde “Patch” Chapman, 65, was taken into custody after deputies and officers from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Drug Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant along SaltPetre Road, off U.S. 52.

Investigators seized two handguns, about 153 grams of cocaine, nearly six pounds of marijuana, a digital scale and more than $30,000 in cash.

Chapman is charged with possession of cocaine with intent to resell, possession of mushrooms with intent to resell and possession of marijuana with intent to resell. More charges are expected.

Thompson said the help of local residents was “instrumental” in catching Chapman.

Chapman has been in custody at the Western Regional Jail since Tuesday evening.
