Caleb Plant promises “good, old-fashioned ass-kicking” in fight against Trevor McCumby

Caleb Plant is confident of winning his next fight on September 14th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas against Trevor McCumby. The 12-round fight will be capped by Canelo Alvarez against Edgar Berlanga. The two are fighting for the interim WBA super middleweight title.

Plant (22-2, 13 KOs) is making his first appearance in the ring this year and will be hoping to return to winning ways. In his last appearance last March, the former IBF middleweight champion lost a unanimous decision to David Benavidez.

In his next fight, the 32-year-old Ashland City native will face undefeated Trevor McCumby (28-0, 21 KOs). The 31-year-old challenger from Yorkville, Illinois, won a unanimous decision against Christopher Pearson in January. Plant said he is fully focused on his next opponent.

“I'm ready to show the fans what a good, old-fashioned beating looks like. His '0' has to go. That's over,” said Caleb Plant at today's media workout in Las Vegas.

“I've been training for over a year and it was good for me going into this camp. I was in the best shape I've ever been in when I started a camp. My sparring was the best I've ever had and honestly it was the smoothest camp I've ever had in my life. I expect that to translate into the ring as well.”

“This is McCumby's chance. Until now, he was a 30-year-old hopeful. He's waited a long time to compete in a big fight and I think that's because he doesn't believe in his abilities. He can talk as much as he wants, but actions speak louder than words. I take it personally that he chose me as his first fight.”

“I haven't thought beyond Trevor McCumby. I'm focused on the task at hand, but I know that winning this belt puts me in a good position for future fights.”

“My coach [Stephen Edwards] and my father [Richie Plant] are like an echo of each other. They're basically the same person and that makes everything really smooth.”

In the co-main event, Cuban Erislandy Lara defends his WBC middleweight belt against Danny Garcia from Philadelphia.
