Bengals injury updates on Amarius Mims, McKinnley Jackson and Jake Browning

The Cincinnati Bengals received their first 53-man roster on Tuesday. Two of the headlines were the injured list of defensive end Myles Murphy and punter Brad Robbins (planned to return in four weeks).

Equally big news are the players who were not placed on the injured list, suggesting they could be back soon. Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com noted Taylor's optimism about three players in particular. The first is defensive tackle McKinnley Jackson, who went on the injured list in the third round, and Murphy.

“The schedule is a little bit more favorable there,” Taylor said of Jackson compared to Murphy.

What is sure to give fans some comfort is the fact that Jake Browning has been added to the roster and the team is without Logan Woodside. This is a pretty clear sign that Browning should be back in action soon.

“We have a good feeling about Joe and Jake. I think he'll start working again this week,” Taylor said. “We'll limit him at the beginning so he doesn't overdo it. Jake looks encouraging. I'm glad he's number two.”

It shouldn't be a surprise if the team tries to sign Woodside or another quarterback to their practice squad, as they usually have a third quarterback under contract that they could potentially call up in the event of an injury. Still, Browning proved last season that he can help this team win some games in Joe Burrow's absence, which isn't easy.

Finally, Amarius Mims comes in, entering in the first round. He's trying to shed the unfair image of being injury-prone. Here's what Hobson relayed after a Zoom media call with Taylor.

But Taylor said first-round pick Amarius Mims, who competed with Trent Brown for the starting right tackle spot until he dislocated his shoulder 17 days ago, won't work Wednesday and Thursday. They'll see if he can go when they return Monday, Labor Day, after a three-day break.

This is great news because the rookie has shown some potential in his short time during the preseason. He has all the physical ability in the world. He may just need a few reps to get used to the speed of the NFL. It's been a long time since the team has had a rookie with as much potential as he does.
