Family of a famous merchant banker sells historic hotel

Drysdale and Company markets the Ardvasar Hotel or The Inn at Àird a' Bhàsair, a hotel, pub and restaurant overlooking the Sound of Sleat on the Isle of Skye.

“The Inn at Àird a' Bhàsair represents a rare opportunity to acquire a well-established small hotel on the Isle of Skye,” said Drysdale and Company.

“There is excellent potential to the rear of the property for the construction of further rental apartments or alternatively a detached house, subject to the granting of the relevant planning permission.

“Skye continues to be an extremely popular destination for both international visitors and tourists from the UK. The hotel requires very little investment, with a new commercial kitchen installed a few years ago.”

The agent added: “The hotel benefits from a peaceful location overlooking the Sound of Sleat and the title deeds state that the land directly in front of the hotel is legally prohibited from being developed, so the views will be preserved well into the future.”

The current owner is Lady Lucilla Noble, widow of the late Sir Iain, co-founder of Noble Grossart, who purchased 20,000 acres of the Macdonald estate on Skye in 1972. Sir Iain played a key role in the revival of Scotland's Gaelic heritage and founded the Gaelic College of Sabhal Mor Ostaig on the Isle of Skye in 1973.

The agent continued: “The hotel has a large dining room which can be accessed directly from the entrance hall next to the reception.

“The restaurant essentially extends over two adjoining rooms and has space for around 60 covers. A selection of fixed and movable furniture is available.

“There is a wooden framed corner bar which also provides staff access to the public bar. The public bar is popular with guests and locals and has a separate external access to the front facade of the hotel.”

Drysdale and Company is now marketing the hotel at a reduced price of £745,000, up from £795,000 when the hotel was first marketed last year. The second property remains at a guide price of £80,000.
