Car crashes into house in Old Metairie | Crime/Police

A car crashed into a home in Old Metairie on Tuesday evening, sending the driver to the hospital, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said.

A man driving the vehicle crashed into the rear of a home at the corner of Homestead Avenue and Brockenbraugh Street around 7:20 p.m. Authorities believe the incident was caused by a medical issue involving the driver, JPSO spokesman Brandon Veal said.

Veal said at least one person was inside the home, but everyone else involved was treated at the scene.

The Jefferson Parish Fire Department was on site with emergency personnel.

“Firefighters extricated a patient from the vehicle to provide medical assistance,” the fire department said in a written statement. “Additional firefighters worked to stabilize the building to assist the homeowner in exiting his home.”

Further details were not immediately available.

The traffic accident occurred a few days after a drunk driver drove into a house in eastern New Orleans, seriously injuring a teenager who was sleeping inside.

This is breaking news. More details to follow later.
