Our Yorkshire Farm's Reuben Owen talks about life after famous parents split

Reuben Owen, from Our Yorkshire Farm, has spoken about how his family is coping since his parents Amanda and Clive Owen split up. Despite the drama, the exes are remaining professional and focused on the tasks at hand at Ravenseat Farm, he says.

The former couple, who rose to fame through their hit TV series, announced their split late last year, leaving fans stunned. While they remained tight-lipped about the details of their split, Clive, who is two decades older than Amanda, hinted at personal regret.

He has spoken openly about “bad behavior” and mentioned some less than ideal habits, including “swearing, raging and drinking.”

Clive, now 69, reflected on the impact of fame on their relationship in a heartfelt chat on ITV's Lorraine last year. He confessed: “We made Our Yorkshire Farm, people loved it and it was an opportunity to create something as a family. That's what drove them to [Amanda]”It was great and very successful but I handled it very badly. It was a big change in our lives and unfortunately I basically messed it all up completely,” reports the Mirror.

Clive also spoke openly about his role in the breakdown of his marriage, admitting: “I played a big part in the end of the relationship. I ranted and raved and drank and carried on. I don't know jealousy. She seemed to eat me up and I handled it badly and behaved badly towards her. I should have supported her.”

He continued to praise his estranged wife as a “remarkable woman” and acknowledged that they had reached a point where they could no longer stay together.

Amanda Owen has previously spoken out about the split, maintaining a pragmatic attitude in the interest of their shared responsibility: “Look, if I was brilliant and I thought he was brilliant, then we wouldn't have split up. But you know what, this isn't an isolated case. That's just the way it is. But we have nine children and we just have to deal with it.”

Their son Reuben is stepping into the spotlight with his own TV show about life as a young farmer. Speaking to MailOnline about his family's reaction to his parents' split, he said: “Yes, they've talked about it but it's not a big deal for us. It's quite simple actually. Everyone gets on well. It hasn't really changed for any of us, if you catch my drift… Everyone makes it work. Beyond that, it's none of my business. I just want them to be happy. That's all that matters.”

Reuben fondly remembered his parents' consistent work ethic, saying: “Mum and Dad were both there, working together, doing things with the cows. That's the way it is. Nothing has changed. They just carry on. They're basically the same. They do whatever needs to be done. Great role models, really brilliant. They ran the farm in rain and snow. They're really tough.”

Exciting times lie ahead for Reuben as he embarks on a new adventure in the upcoming Channel 5 series Reuben Owen: Life in the Dales. The show follows Reuben's journey as he develops his heavy machinery business alongside his partner Sarah and friend Tommy.

Meanwhile, Amanda and Clive will be back on our screens in the spin-off series The Farm Next Door, showcasing their efforts in renovating a nearby property.

Catch the premiere of Reuben Owen: Life In The Dales on Thursday 25 April at 8pm on Channel 5 or stream it on My5.
