Israel launches major anti-terror operation in West Bank, killing 9 militants, according to IDF

The Israeli military carried out a large-scale operation in the West Bank this week in which nine militants were killed, the Israel Defense Forces said on Wednesday.

The Israel Defense Forces said a large group of its forces entered the city of Jenin on Wednesday. All nine people killed in the operation were militants. IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani said three of the people were killed in an airstrike on Tulkarem, while four others were killed in an airstrike in Al-Faraa.

The last two were killed by Israeli soldiers.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz wrote on social media that the aim of the operation was to destabilize Iran's “terrorist infrastructure” in the West Bank.

“We must deal with this threat just as we deal with the terrorist infrastructure in Gaza, including the temporary evacuation of Palestinian residents and all necessary steps,” Katz wrote. “This is a war in every sense and we must win it.”

The operation in the West Bank came a day after the Israeli military successfully freed a hostage held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.

“The Israel Defense Forces and the ISA rescued Qaid Farhan Alkadi from Gaza, where he was held hostage, and brought him to his family in Israel. This operation was part of the daring and courageous activities of the Israel Defense Forces deep inside the Gaza Strip,” said Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

“This operation is part of a series of actions by the Israeli forces that bring us closer to achieving the goals of this war,” Gallant continued. “I want to reiterate: Israel is determined to use every opportunity to return the hostages to Israel.”

Qaid Farhan Alkadi from Rahat was reportedly rescued by a mixed company of Israeli fighters, including members of the 401st Brigade, the 162nd Division and Shayetet 13.

Members of the engineering office Combat Special Unit Yahalom and intelligence agents from the Israel Security Service also took part in the rescue.

Alkadi, 52, was born in Gaza Strip For almost a year. Further details on the nature of the rescue operation are not being disclosed, “out of considerations for the safety of our hostages, the safety of our armed forces and national security.”
