Walk to End Lupus Now® brings communities nationwide together in the fight against lupus

WASHINGTON, 28 August 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The Lupus Foundation of America Go to exit Lupus Now® Next month, fall events officially begin, mobilizing communities across the country to raise awareness and funds for lupus research and support programs. Each event inspires, motivates and connects cities across the country as participants move forward together to advance the mission to eradicate lupus while significantly improving the lives of those affected.

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects millions of people worldwide, causing pain and inflammation throughout the body. Symptoms range from debilitating fatigue and joint pain to organ damage, including kidney and heart disease. While lupus can affect anyone, 9 out of 10 people with lupus are women. Certain racial and ethnic groups are disproportionately affected, including Black/African Americans, Hispanic/Latinos, Native Americans, and Asian/Pacific Islanders.

The Lupus Foundation of America's Walk to End Lupus Now program mobilizes communities to do their part and make a difference in the fight against lupus. Each participant is encouraged to invite friends and family, form a team, use their social networks to raise awareness about lupus, and raise funds for lupus research, educational programs, and support services.

Participants of all ages and backgrounds come together at each run to show their strength as a “Lupus Warrior” or to support someone living with the disease. These events serve as a reminder that no one is alone in their journey with lupus and that everyone has the power to lend a helping hand and make a difference.

“The Walk to End Lupus Now season is the season of hope for Lupus Warriors,” said Louise VetterPresident and CEO of the Lupus Foundation of America. “I am incredibly excited to stand side by side with the community and support the strength and determination of the lupus community that I have heard so much about since joining the Foundation earlier this summer.”

“This event is a powerful platform to raise awareness about lupus, dispel misconceptions, and raise critical funds to advance our mission to end this disease. Together, we are taking significant steps toward a better future for all affected by lupus.”

Walk to End Lupus Now participants can look forward to events featuring inspiring guest speakers, live entertainment, information booths, and opportunities to connect with local businesses committed to advocating for and supporting lupus patients.

Ms. Vetter added, “Through our Walk to End Lupus Now, we are raising awareness of this often overlooked and complicated disease, dispelling misconceptions, and raising critical funds to advance our research, care, and support programs. About Lupus:

Lupus is an unpredictable and misunderstood autoimmune disease that ravages various parts of the body. It is difficult to diagnose, difficult to live with, and challenging to treat. Lupus is a cruel mystery because it remains hidden and undefined, has a range of symptoms, strikes out of nowhere, and has no known cause and no known cure. Its health effects can range from a rash to a heart attack. Lupus is debilitating and destructive, and can be fatal, yet research into lupus remains underfunded relative to its scale and devastation.
