Teacher arrested for sexually abusing a former student under the age of 10

LANDOVER HILLS, MD — An elementary school teacher was arrested after police say he sexually abused a student and was in possession of child pornography.

On August 25, investigators with the Child and Adult Abuse Unit were notified of a situation involving 44-year-old Mark Cobb of Bowie and a former student who is younger than 10 years old. Cobb teaches at Cooper Lane Elementary School in Landover Hills.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Cobb sent text messages to the victim between June 2023 and August 2024. During this time, the suspect requested and received sexually inappropriate photographs of the victim.

On Monday, detectives arrested Cobb. After obtaining a search warrant, they seized evidence at his home that led to him being charged with sexual abuse of a minor, nine counts of possession of child pornography and promoting or distributing child pornography with the intent to possess.

Investigators have not yet discovered any other victims at the school, but are asking anyone with relevant information about this case to call CVAA investigators at 301-772-4930.
