Motorcyclist dies in accident in Taylor

A 19-year-old man died Monday when his dirt bike collided with a car in Taylor, police said.

Officials said emergency crews were called to the intersection of South Telegraph Road and Interstate 94 around 7:50 p.m. Monday for a report of an accident involving a Ford Edge, a dirt bike.

When they arrived, authorities said they found both the driver of the vehicle and the driver of the motorcycle at the scene of the accident. The driver was injured.

Investigators said the driver of the Ford and witnesses helped the injured man until paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Taylor police said officers later identified the driver as 19-year-old Martin Reyes.

Police also said they had received reports that the bicycle he was riding had been stolen in Shelby Township.

According to preliminary investigations, the motorcycle was traveling south on Telegraph and ignored a red light. As the motorcycle passed through the intersection, it was struck by the Ford Edge, police said.

Officials said the driver of the Ford is cooperating with investigators.
