Martins Ferry school bus driver faces charges after allegedly driving under the influence

Further details have been released about Monday evening's incident involving a member of staff at Martins Ferry School and Cambridge Police.

According to the police report, Ronald Irvin Vah was identified as the bus driver.

While on patrol, police responded to a report of an impaired bus driver at Cambridge Middle School.

Police spoke to Martins Ferry's volleyball coach, who said Vah was driving “really poorly” on the way to the game. Other fans claim the driver was yelling and wobbling during the game.

Police questioned Vah outside the school. Vah claims he last drank alcohol a few weeks to a few months ago.

But he also said he takes prescription medication for a personal medical condition. Vah claims the prescriptions contain warnings not to operate heavy machinery.

After conducting a standardized sobriety test, officers claimed that Vah exhibited all signs of impairment.

Vah was taken to the OSHP station to take a breathalyzer test. He refused and was then taken to Cambridge Police Headquarters, placed in a holding cell, and then picked up by his wife.

Vah appeared in Cambridge Municipal Court Wednesday morning and pleaded not guilty to three counts: OVI, physical control under the influence and child endangerment.

His next court date is October 28 at 10 a.m.
