Accident between semi-trailer and pickup truck in southeast Amarillo, at least 1 dead

At least one person was killed in a traffic accident on Wednesday and a section of Loop 335 in southeast Amarillo had to be closed, according to preliminary reports and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

On Wednesday at around 12:40 p.m., a driver crossed into the other lane and collided head-on with the other vehicle. Police were still at the scene of the accident at around 3:30 p.m. A semi-trailer and a pickup truck were involved in the accident. It is not known which vehicle crossed into the other's lane.

The Texas Department of Transportation's Amarillo office issued a traffic alert indicating the closure of Loop 335 between 58th Avenue and Whitaker Road and asking motorists to avoid the area. The Randall County Sheriff's Office also said it responded to the scene of a “major traffic accident” at Loop 335 and Farmers Avenue. No further updates or information were available.

DPS said additional details will be released once all information is available and next of kin are notified.
