Man allegedly stole a student's bicycle in the parking lot of Hickman High School

COLUMBIA, Missouri (KMIZ)

A Columbia man has been charged after allegedly stealing a student's bicycle in a Hickman High School parking lot on Wednesday.

Benjamin Bowman, 48, was charged with theft, drug possession and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in the Boone County Jail on $21,000 bail. A court date has not yet been set.

According to the probable cause affidavit, school officials told police that a student had his bicycle stolen by an adult in the school's west parking lot. The student allegedly told police that they were riding their bicycles to school when a man claimed they were riding his bicycle and he took the bike away from them, the affidavit states.

Bowman then rode his bicycle south on Providence Road, the statement said. No injuries were reported, court documents said.

According to court documents, police viewed video of the incident and several officers were able to identify Bowman. Police found Bowman riding a bicycle in Douglass Park, court documents say. Bowman allegedly had a bag of methamphetamine and a glass pipe with meth residue, the statement said.
