Elderly man dies in accident at intersection in St. Paul without power

St. Paul, Minnesota – A man in his 90s died Wednesday morning in an accident near Como Park, where street lights were turned off due to a power outage.

According to St. Paul police, he was a passenger in a Ford Transit that was struck by a driver in a Dodge Journey at the intersection of Lexington Parkway and Como Avenue. The accident occurred around 5:15 a.m.

The van overturned. The man was rescued from the vehicle and taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.

Officials say the streetlights and traffic lights at the intersection are out of order due to the power outages caused by a Storm on Tuesday.

According to police, the driver of the Dodge Journey is cooperating and there is no suspicion of impairment of the vehicle.

The crash is currently being investigated.
