Man accused of attacking woman at Newark Liberty Airport arrived at airport by taxi minutes before attack

Port Police have released new information about a man accused of attacking a woman with a knife at Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday afternoon.

A source at the port police reports News 12 New Jersey that Jin Xiong arrived at the airport's Terminal A in a yellow New York taxi at 4:41 p.m. The source says surveillance camera caught Xiong walking around the airport for several minutes without interacting with anyone before he allegedly attacked the woman about eight minutes later.

According to authorities, the victim suffered cuts to his face and is expected to recover.

The Port Authority source says Xiong is homeless but was not in the terminal and Port Authority homeless advocates were unaware that he was in need of assistance.

Xiong was charged with aggravated assault and illegal possession of a weapon. He is being held in the Essex County Jail.
