Swerve Strickland talks about famous match with AR Fox, Mark Henry wants a match between McGuinness and Danielson

Ahead of Sunday's AEW All In 2024 pay-per-view event, former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland appeared on The Rich Eisen Show to discuss his famous bout with AR Fox in Lucha Underground in 2016.

Below you can see some highlights from the podcast:

On the thought process before the game: “At first we thought, 'Do we have enough? I don't know if we have enough. I think we have enough.' We got to the point where we thought, 'Okay, this is Ultima Lucha. There have been some crazy matches, the bar is already high enough. What do we do to not only raise it, what do we do to put our name on it where people can't copy that because it's us.”

On why no one can copy the energy of the match: “That feeling and that energy you just can't replicate. We just come up with concepts like: this only works if Fox is in this position, this only works if Killshot is in this position, and I think that's what makes that match so closely associated with us and why fans are attached to it. Even years later, they still talk about it because they think: man, those guys, it had to be them. There's no other way, it almost feels like Frieza fighting Goku on Planet Nanik. There's no other fight that could blow up that planet because it had to be them. It had to be those two, and that was the mindset behind it. When you see those moments in a match and you take the characters out and you just have a silhouette, you know that was Kill Shot, you know that was Fox.”

In a recent episode of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry expressed his desire to see Nigel McGuinness face his rival Bryan Danielson.

Below you can see some highlights from the podcast:

On Nigel McGuinness’ return to the ring: “If you don't bring Nigel back as a wrestler, I have a problem. He has to wrestle now.”

On wanting to see McGuinness target Bryan Danielson for Christian Cage's benefit: “I would send Nigel to the No. 1 challenger and tell him, 'Hey, I don't normally do this, but I want to jump the queue… But you have to know that he's going to be damaged goods when I'm done with him.'”
