McHenry man convicted of 1999 drunken killing of teen pleads guilty to drunken driving in 2022, gets 3 years in prison – Shaw Local

A McHenry man convicted in Lake County in 1999 of a traffic crash that killed his 16-year-old passenger while he was driving drunk pleaded guilty Wednesday to a charge of driving under the influence and faces charges starting in 2022.

Todd Wojdakowski, 45, was sentenced to three years in prison, half of which he must serve, and after his release he will be placed on probation for six months, according to a McHenry County court ruling.

He was also ordered to pay $1,884 in fines and fees and will have seven days served in the county jail credited toward his prison sentence, according to the order signed by Judge Mark Gerhardt.

Wojdakowski also pleaded guilty to two other counts of driving without a license and obstructing the reporting of domestic violence and was fined a total of $914, according to records from those cases.

He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in McHenry on Sept. 15, 2022, records show. In exchange for his guilty plea, other charges were dropped, including obstruction of justice, failure to reduce speed and failure to report a change of residence, records show. He was accused of refusing to comply with “a search warrant for a blood sample,” the indictment states.

Wojdakowski was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Lake County in 1999 and sentenced to four years in prison, prosecutors said. In that case, he was accused of driving under the influence of alcohol when he crashed his vehicle, according to Lake County court records. The records show he lost control of his 1994 sports car on a curve and crashed into a utility pole on Old Volo Village Road. The force of the impact severed the utility pole and killed Wojdakowski's 16-year-old passenger.
