According to Red Sox manager, the right-hander's injury is not the end of the season

Red Sox right-hander Luis Garcia was placed on the injured list shortly before Tuesday's game because of inflammation in his right elbow, but manager Alex Cora said the club does not expect Garcia to miss the rest of the season.

“This is not the end of the season, so he will be treated and we will see where we are in the next few days and move on from there,” said Cora.

Garcia, who was acquired at the trade deadline along with fellow right-hander Lucas Sims, has struggled since being traded to Boston from the Los Angeles Angels. The 37-year-old has allowed 13 earned runs in 11.1 innings, including at least one run in seven of his 11 appearances with the Red Sox.

Sims was also placed on the injured list on Tuesday after suffering a strained right latissimus dorsi, and Cora also went into more detail about what he's struggling with before Wednesday's first pitch.

“The lower back, so he's moving, he's working out and all that stuff,” Cora said. “It obviously bothers him when he extends his arms, so hopefully we'll re-evaluate in 10 days and see where we're at.”

In other injury news, right-hander Liam Hendriks was scheduled to make his final rehab appearance in Worcester on Wednesday night. It would be his fourth of what is expected to be six to seven minor league appearances.

Left-hander Cam Booser is also scheduled to begin rehab on Thursday, Cora said, and shortstop Trevor Story has been hitting regularly with the trajectory pitching machine and catching ground balls. He probably won't begin rehab until next week at the earliest, though he is expected to travel to New York when the Red Sox play the Mets in Queens.
