Born Steven Victor Tallarico on 26 March 1948, Steven Tyler is the patriarch of the Tyler family.

The legendary rock star is estimated to be worth a stunning $150 million (£118m). So how has he made his megabucks over the years?

Aerosmith’s rise to the top

Tyler is best known for being the frontman of American rock band Aerosmith, which was formed in 1970.

The group’s original line-up featured lead singer Tyler, guitarist Joe Perry, bassist Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer, and rhythm guitarist Ray Tabano. Brad Whitford later replaced Tabano.

The band scored a record deal with Columbia Records in 1972 and released their self-titled debut album the following year.

By the mid-70s, Aerosmith had shot to mainstream stardom thanks to iconic hits such as Dream OnSweet Emotion, and Walk This Way.

Today, Aerosmith is one of the best-selling rock bands of all time, having sold over 150 million records worldwide.

Over the years, the legendary group has released 15 studio albums, won four prestigious Grammy awards, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

Their impressive song catalogue includes bonafide rock and roll classics, such as Dude (Looks Like a Lady)Love in an Elevator, and I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.

Peace Out!

After over five decades of topping the charts, Tyler and his bandmates have announced their retirement from touring. The band embarked on one final hurrah, with their Peace Out tour kicking off in September 2023.

The tour was supposed to run until 2025, but several 2023 dates were postponed after Tyler damaged his vocal cords and fractured his larynx. Unfortunately, the tour was cancelled in August 2024 when it was revealed the damage to Tyler’s vocal cords was irreparable.

A statement from the band read: “As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before the injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision—as a band of brothers—to retire from the touring stage.”

Away from Aerosmith, Tyler surprised fans in 2016 with the release of a country album titled We’re All Somebody from Somewhere.

The surprising record was Tyler’s first – and so far only – solo project, although he’s previously collaborated with other music icons, including Alice Cooper and P!nk.

Tyler doesn’t solely rely on music to make his millions, however…

Acting efforts

Over the years, Tyler has delighted his fans with cameo appearances in TV shows Two and a Half Men and Nashville, as well as in the wacky comedy film Wayne’s World 2.

He’s also lent his voice to animated movies. These include holiday classic The Polar Express (2004) and adventure saga Epic (2013).

Tyler also served as a judge on the reality TV competition American Idol between 2011 and 2012, reportedly earning $20 million for his two-season stint, the equivalent of $27 million (£21.3m) in 2024 money.

The rock star once confessed to Rolling Stone magazine that he had a love-hate relationship with the lucrative gig, revealing: “I loved it and hated it. It was a great job; I sat next to J Lo, and I made a ton of money. It was a moment in life, and it became larger than life.”

In 2011, The Aerosmith frontman released his autobiography Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?

The no-holds-barred memoir flew off shelves thanks to its many scandalous stories about Tyler’s infamous rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle.

But this wasn’t the first time he’d put pen to paper. Tyler also published Walk This Way: The Autobiography of Aerosmith in collaboration with his bandmates and journalist Stephen Davis in 1997 (pictured).

Now let’s take a closer look at the other members of the dynasty…

Bebe Buell

Born on 14 July 1953, Beverle “Bebe” Buell is the ex-girlfriend of Steven Tyler.

The mother of his eldest child Liv, Buell is estimated to be worth around $5 million (£3.9m).

Let’s take a look at how she makes her money…

Model and “groupie”

Ebet Roberts/Redferns

Ebet Roberts/Redferns

Buell is a former model perhaps best known for a 1974 Playboy Playmate of the Month photoshoot.

She once said of her modelling career: “I was a pretty, young girl, so I fell into the modelling thing, and [then] I did Playboy, so then the rock stars came a-hunting, as I like to say.”

Though she rejects the label, Buell has been referred to as a “groupie” by the media due to her string of headline-hitting relationships with several rock stars, including Mick Jagger, David Bowie, and Iggy Pop.

Music career

Buell hasn’t just dated musicians; she’s also forged her own career in the industry.

She formed the rock band Bebe Buell and the B-Sides in 1980, though the group disbanded a few years later. She then moved on to Bebe Buell and the Gargoyles, but the band broke up in 1991.

Buell put her musical endeavours on hold to manage the career of her daughter Liv (pictured together with Steven Tyler) in the 1990s. She returned to the music scene with the release of her 2018 album, Baring It All: Greetings From Nashbury Park.

Former “it girl” Buell has links to some of the biggest names in rock music, so it was no surprise when her 2001 memoir, Rebel Heart: An American Rock and Roll Journey, became an instant bestseller.

The tell-all book shared juicy details about her “wild child” lifestyle during the golden era of rock ‘n’ roll in the 1970s and 80s.

In 2022, Bebe released a follow-up called Rebel Soul: Musings, Music, & Magic, though it failed to match the success of its predecessor.

Today, Buell has settled down in Nashville, where she lives with her musician husband, James Wallerstein (pictured together).

Details of her Tennessee home are scarce, though Nashville Interiors magazine once described it as “an eclectic collection of family heirlooms and rock ’n’ roll history.”

The publication also mentioned that the home featured original artwork gifted to Buell by her ex, Mick Jagger, and decades-old photography of her with Hugh Hefner.

Liv Tyler

Gregg DeGuire/FilmMagic

Gregg DeGuire/FilmMagic

Born on 1 July 1977, Liv is the eldest child of Steven Tyler and Bebe Buell.

Liv grew up believing that her father was musician Todd Rundgren, who Buell dated in the 1970s. At the age of 10, she discovered that Tyler was her biological father, though this information wasn’t made public until 1991.

Today, Liv is estimated to be worth $50 million (£39.4m).

Let’s look closer at how she’s amassed her impressive fortune…

Liv’s big break

Touchstone/Getty Images

Touchstone/Getty Images

Liv, who has clearly inherited her parents’ striking good looks, started out as a teen model before moving on to acting.

She made her movie debut in the thriller Silent Fall in 1994, while other early roles included the coming-of-age comedy Empire Records and the arthouse film Stealing Beauty.

Her big break came when she landed a starring role in the 1998 disaster movie Armageddon (pictured) alongside Ben Affleck and Bruce Willis. Aerosmith’s smash hit song, I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing, featured on the soundtrack of the Hollywood blockbuster.

Today, Liv is a bonafide movie star, arguably best known for playing Elf maiden Arwen in the Lord of the Rings film franchise.

Other silver screen credits include superhero film The Incredible Hulk, psychological horror movie The Strangers, and the sci-fi flick Ad Astra, which she starred in alongside Brad Pitt. Tyler is shown here with Pitt at the movie’s 2019 Venice Film Festival premiere.

As for her upcoming work, Liv will play Betty Ross in Captain America: Brave New World, which is scheduled for release next year.

Small screen star

Liv has also had several roles on the small screen and made her TV debut in the supernatural series The Leftovers, which she starred in between 2014 and 2017.

She featured alongside Game of Thrones star Kit Harington in the critically acclaimed historical drama series Gunpowder, which told the story of English rebel Guy Fawkes and his plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605.

In 2020, Liv appeared in several episodes of the Fox drama series 9-1-1: Lone Star.

Endorsement deals

Alongside acting, Liv has further boosted her bank balance with some lucrative endorsement deals.

She’s fronted campaigns for streetwear brand G-Star Raw and was the face of luxury fashion house Givenchy’s beauty division for around a decade.

The stunning starlet began featuring in Givenchy ads in 2003, with Mamma Mia! actress Amanda Seyfried replacing her in 2013.

Following in her parents’ footsteps, Liv has also dabbled in the music industry.

She recorded a cover version of the INXS track Need You Tonight as part of a Givenchy campaign in 2011, and appeared as a guest vocalist on the Lemonheads’ 2009 album Varshons. She can also be heard on the 2017 bonus edition of Evan Dando’s album, Baby I’m Bored.

London life

In 2017, Liv and her then-partner, the British sports agent Dave Gardner, snapped up a seven-bedroom, four-storey townhouse in London for £11.5 million, the equivalent of $14.7 million (£12m) in today’s money.

Liv has offered fans glimpses of the home via Instagram (pictured). The stylish property featured bohemian-inspired decor, mid-century furniture, and luxe art deco flooring.

Reports suggest that Liv and Dave split in 2021.

Now let’s move on to Mia Tyler, Liv’s half-sister…

Born on 22 December 1978, Mia is Steven Tyler’s second child.

Her mother was the late model and actress Cyrinda Foxe, who was married to Tyler between 1978 and 1987. Cyrinda died from a brain tumour in 2002.

Mia is estimated to be worth $5 million (£3.9m). Let’s look at how she makes her money.

Like Liv, Mia (pictured with her late mother) started out as a teen model.

She worked with brands including Lane Bryant and H&M and strutted her stuff down the runways of New York and Paris.

Mia’s experience as a plus-sized woman in the fashion industry encouraged her to launch Revolution 1228, a plus-sized clothing line, in 2009. The business is seemingly no longer trading.

Former actress

Mia has also worked as an actress, making her screen debut in the 2000 indie drama A Little Bit of Lipstick.

She’s also appeared in other projects, including the 2002 drama People Are Dead and the 2007 action flick Rush Hour 3.

It appears Mia has since retired from the profession. Her last credited role on IMDb was for the 2010 horror movie The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol.

Reality star

The starlet has boosted her fortune with several reality TV appearances.

She was a cast member of VH1’s 2005 weight loss series Celebrity Fit Club and appeared on Really Rich Real Estate the following year.

Mia also served as a judge on the Oxygen Network’s reality series Pretty Wicked in 2009.

Mia (pictured with her father) published her autobiography, Creating Myself, in 2008.

The emotional book detailed her struggles with body image and addiction and explored her unique childhood growing up in a rock star family.

Now let’s look at the rest of Steven Tyler’s direct family…

Teresa Barrick

Katy Winn/Getty Images

Katy Winn/Getty Images

Born on 21 March 1960, Teresa Barrick is the second wife of Steven Tyler and the mother of his two youngest children.

The couple married in 1988 but separated after 17 years together.

Barrick is estimated to be worth $800,000 (£631k), so let’s find out how she’s made her money…

Barrick is a fashion designer who crafted many of the outfits Aerosmith wore on stage in the 1990s.

Unlike some members of the showbiz clan, Barrick prefers to stay out of the spotlight.

Chelsea Tyler

Born on 6 March 1989, Chelsea is the third-born daughter of Steven Tyler and his first child with Teresa Barrick.

Not only is Chelsea a mirror image of her dad, she’s also followed in his musical footsteps.

Chelsea is one half of the electric-soul duo KANEHOLLER, which she formed with her now-husband Jon Foster (pictured together) in 2011.

Speaking about making music with her beau, Chelsea told PEOPLE magazine in 2015: “It’s been a really, really incredible experience to be able to do that with somebody that you love so much.”

Ultra-private family

Chelsea and Jon have two children together: Vincent Frank, born in 2020, and Isabella Rae, who they welcomed in 2022.

Beyond this, little else is known about the couple, who clearly prefer to keep their private lives strictly on the down-low.

Taj Tallarico

Born on 31 January 1991, Taj is the youngest child of Steven Tyler and Teresa Barrick.

The only one of the Aerosmith frontman’s offspring who prefers to use Steven’s family name of Tallarico rather than Tyler, Taj is estimated to be worth around $1 million (£788k).

Notoriously private

Notoriously private, Taj prefers to stay out of the spotlight, though we know he appeared in an episode of the tween TV show Lizzie McGuire in 2002.

According to his Facebook profile, Taj (pictured with his father and sisters) married Brittany Reardon in 2018. Little else is known about his private life.
