The 23-year-old from Dorchester is also accused of assaulting a police officer.

A 23-year-old Dorchester man is facing weapons charges after Boston police say he pointed a water pistol at officers during a traffic stop and they allegedly found a real firearm during a search of him.

Danyael Torres is accused of assault on a police officer as well as illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

According to Boston police, officers were sitting in their patrol car near 518 Warren Street during a traffic stop on Saturday around 7:15 p.m. when one of the officers felt liquid hit his face and arms as another car drove by.

The officers found the vehicle and stopped it, police said.

“The passenger told the officers that he wanted to scare them,” police said. “The officers told the passengers that they had disrupted a traffic stop and asked for their IDs. The officers observed the passenger [sic] Bend forward and ask him to sit up straight so he can see his hands.”

Officers ordered the passenger, later identified as Torres, to get out of the vehicle, police said. He allegedly refused, and officers opened the car door and saw him lean forward again.

“Officers searched the suspect and found a firearm in his waistband,” police said.

According to police, a water pistol was also found in the car. The other occupants of the car were “immediately released,” police said, but Torres was arrested.

He was arraigned in Roxbury District Court on Monday, where he pleaded not guilty.

A request for comment to Torres' attorney was not immediately answered.
