Teenage Tesla driver dies in head-on collision on Highway 20 in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ore. (KPTV) – An 18-year-old woman died in a two-car crash on Highway 20 in Jefferson County on Tuesday, according to Oregon State Police.

Shortly before 11 a.m., officers responded to the accident near mile marker 82, where a Tesla Model S collided head-on with a Jeep Wagoneer.

According to police, Scarlett Jewell Felder of Klamath Falls was driving the Tesla eastbound when she crossed into the oncoming lane. The Jeep, which was traveling westbound, attempted to avoid the Tesla by moving into the slow westbound lane, but was unsuccessful.

Felder was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep, a 65-year-old man from Naples, Florida, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation. Three adult passengers in the Jeep also suffered “minor to moderate injuries” and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police did not provide details about why the Tesla may have left the eastbound lane.
