Grand jury upgrades Mobile man's charge to felony in girlfriend's death

MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) – A man accused of shooting a woman in front of her children now faces felony charges.

A Mobile County grand jury upgraded the indictment against Milton Lamar Farris, 38, of Mobile. He is also charged with robbery, kidnapping, receiving a stolen firearm and child rape.

Police arrested Farris in August 2023 in the 2000 block of Bragdon Avenue with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service's Gulf Coast Regional Task Force. Police had been searching for him since finding 30-year-old Malinda Robertson dead outside her home on Wagner Street in Toulminville Township.

Police initially believed the shooter might still be in the building. However, they did not find him, but they did find Robertson's four children.

As police led Farris to a vehicle to take him to the Mobile County Metro Jail, Farris expressed his remorse.

“If I could undo all this, I would. … I wish I could undo it, man,” he said at the time.

Prosecutors have not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty against Farris. His arraignment is scheduled for September 25.
