Wilds does away with gender-specific armor to give players more freedom

For a long time, fans criticized Monster Hunter for not having the same armor for the hunters. Whether man or woman, everyone got completely different equipment, and in Monster Hunter: Wilds, all of that will change.

Speaking to David Caballero, our Editor-in-Chief at Gamereactor Spain, Kaname Fujioka, Executive and Art Director of Monster Hunter: Wilds, talked about the decision to allow a more similar design of the male and female armor.

“We've always had different variations in armor, whether it was separating bladed weapons and archer armor in older games or a general separation between male and female armor for the different types of hunter avatars,” said Fujioka. “We stuck more to classic archetypes where male armor is tougher and stronger and female armor is more feminine. But I think we heard a lot of people say that they wanted to be able to choose the armor they wanted to put on their hunter, regardless of what type of hunter they were creating.”

“So we just decided to give you the choice and the freedom to put the armor you want on your hunter. So we hope you like it and find freedom.”
