According to the California Highway Patrol, two people died in a wrong-way driving accident on State Route 85 in San Jose on Monday.

An email was sent to the families of the school the teenager attended.

It said that he was in the 9th grade and that his family said he was happy at the school, which he was only allowed to attend for a short time.

According to officials, the driver of the truck was a 39-year-old man from Florida who was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Witness describes how he saw a pickup truck driving too fast before it crashed fatally

There is new cellphone video of the truck heading the wrong way, captured Monday by Normi Juarez, who had just picked up her son from school.

“I'm doing 65 or 70 in the fast lane, but the truck is going faster – 90 or more than 90,” Juarez said.

CHP has not disclosed how fast the driver was going, but in the dashcam video above, you can see that he sped right past other oncoming vehicles and eventually collided with a Tesla.

“Second-degree murder has not been ruled out at this point. Much will depend on the toxicology results we receive later. Were there any prescription drugs? Were there any alcohol or drugs in his system at the time of the accident?”

That's according to legal expert Steven Clark, who says they will also look at this driver's criminal history. Initial online records show he has a previous drunk driving conviction in Florida.

A video shows a truck driving in the wrong direction for several minutes on a busy San Jose highway on Monday before killing two people.

“Investigators will want to know what kind of mindset he was in at the time of that drive. They'll want to talk to the people who were with him that day. Was there anything in his life that might indicate that he might have had intent? That he was intentionally driving the wrong way on that highway at that time,” Clark said.

As bad as this accident was, Juarez says it could have been worse as other drivers swerved to avoid the pickup truck.

“So it almost hit the cars? The three cars before the accident?” asked ABC7 reporter JR Stone, to which Juarez replied, “Yes, before.”

Officials also confirmed that the driver of the pickup truck had been driving in the wrong direction for more than ten minutes. Many people online are very concerned about this.

“It is a legitimate question whether there were police measures that could have intervened more quickly,” Clark said.

CHP says the suspect was alive and in the hospital at last check.

The CHP said it is still investigating why the driver was going in the wrong direction and which highway he came from.

The CHP is asking any witnesses to come forward.
