Cobb County man sentenced to prison for child abuse

Wolford Hunter Kilgore, 54, has pleaded guilty to several serious charges in Cobb County, including aggravated sodomy, aggravated child abuse, two counts of aggravated sexual assault and child abuse.

His August 16 guilty plea followed an in-depth investigation into the abuse allegations that began in May 2020. The underage victim came forward and disclosed that Kilgore had engaged in inappropriate and escalating sexual contact at his Kennesaw home over an 18-month period.

The case was taken over by SVU investigators from the Cobb County Police with assistance from the Kennesaw Police Department, who conducted a thorough forensic interview with the victim. Their account of events was corroborated by Kilgore's own confessions, made while at Kennestone Hospital. These confessions closely matched the victim's detailed account and provided strong evidence against him.

In court, Judge Julie Adams Jacobs of the Cobb County Superior Court imposed a hefty sentence of 40 years, of which the first 15 years must be served in prison without the possibility of parole. The remaining 25 years will be served on probation. In addition, Kilgore must register as a sex offender and must have no contact with the victim for the duration of his sentence.

District Attorney Flynn D. Broady Jr. praised the victim's courage in coming forward and acknowledged the diligent efforts of law enforcement in bringing the case to a resolution. Assistant District Attorney Lindsay Raynor prosecuted the case on behalf of the state, while Kilgore was represented by Kim Keheley Frye. The case highlights the Cobb County legal system's commitment to bringing justice to victims of such heinous crimes.
