Driver in bulletproof vest tries to flee from police after drug raid in Murrysville

A Pittsburgh man wore a bulletproof vest as he led Murrysville police on a chase following a drug raid Wednesday afternoon, court records show.

Authorities said Keyshawn H. Campbell, 23, also had a sweatshirt with a body armor sewn into it wrapped around the driver's seat of a Jeep. Campbell was being held without bail in the Westmoreland County Jail.

Murrysville police and the Westmoreland County Drug Enforcement Task Force, with assistance from the Attorney General's Office, have been investigating Campbell since June. Authorities bought cocaine from him for a second time around 1 p.m. Wednesday, and task force officers met after the deal to make an arrest, court records show.

They said Campbell fled onto Route 22 near Tarr Hollow Road and police ended the pursuit by using tire pressure valves, a complaint states. Cocaine, marijuana, amphetamine pills and 357 stamp bags of heroin were reportedly seized from the Jeep, as well as a handgun and the body armor.

No attorney was listed for Campbell in online court records. He is charged with possession with intent to resell, unlawful assault and related offenses. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 10.
