Khalil Rountree allowed to fight Alex Pereira at UFC 307, suspension lifted

Khalil Rountree can officially put his recent suspension due to a doping test behind him.

At a meeting of the Nevada Athletic Commission on Thursday, it was decided that Rountree's suspension would expire on April 4. 12 Months, retroactive to the failed drug test that forced him to withdraw from a fight with Jamahal Hill at UFC 303 last June. This means Rountree is cleared for his scheduled title fight with light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, which takes place on October 5 at UFC 307.

Rountree self-reported his failed test, which tested for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a steroid hormone. At the time, Rountree stated that he was “using a personalized, customized supplement service” and that the service inadvertently delivered him “a blended supplement” that contained the banned substance.

In addition to the suspension, which officially ends on September 18, Rountree must pay $157 in legal costs. The commission found that Rountree's self-reporting played a major role in the fighter not receiving a harsher sentence.

Rountree joined the NAC meeting by phone on Thursday and expressed his gratitude to the commission for its handling of his case.

Pereira vs. Rountree is the main event of UFC 307 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. “Poatan” is seeking his third defense of the light heavyweight title, while Rountree enters the contest with a career-high five straight wins.
