Matt Lauer's daughter gets into legal trouble for allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident: REPORT

Matt Lauer's daughter Romy is said to have caused an accident with her car and fled the scene – but she left her license plate behind, sources said.

Romy crashed her Jeep Wrangler in the Hamptons over the Fourth of July weekend, but did not stay at the scene of the accident, Page Six reported. Initial reports indicate she collided with a fence and a sign during the crash, and her license plate fell off during the incident, sources told the paper. Southampton Town Police were reportedly able to identify Romy by her license plate. Authorities then sent a summons for allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident, police told Page Six.

A source told Page Six that a concerned neighbor alerted police after hearing a loud noise at 4 a.m. on July 5. A 911 call was reportedly made and police were dispatched to the scene on North Sea Mecox Road.

When police arrived, they noticed damage to the sign and fence and were able to locate the license plate, but there was no sign of a driver or vehicle at the scene, sources told the outlet.

A source familiar with the situation reportedly said police have issued a ticket and prominent legal adviser Edward Burke Jr. has already been hired to defend the former “Today” anchor's daughter.

According to Page Six, the insider said Burke Jr. is “currently involved in the case and is trying to resolve it for Ms. Lauer in court.”

Burke has represented Justin Timberlake, Matt Lauer and Lizzie Grubman in the past, as well as a long list of other VIP clients.

Lauer's daughter posted a TikTok post on the evening of July 4 showing her trip with two friends to a sushi shop in Kissaki, Water Mill. The location is very close to the accident scene, according to Page Six. (RELATED: Police arrest reality TV star Christi Lukasiak for drunk driving after car crash: REPORT)
