Frontman of “Cancer Christ” arrested after rampage in Yosemite Park

Anthony Mehlhaff is the 40-year-old frontman of Cancer Christ, an LA-based hardcore band whose top song on Apple Music is “God Hates Cops.” This week he had quite the run-in with the police himself over a bizarre series of crimes in Yosemite National Park.

It all started around 1:45 p.m. when Mehlhaff allegedly walked up to a pregnant waitress, touched her belly and said, “The spirits led me to you, and your baby is mine.” That's a super creepy statement and it got even crazier from there.

The singer now faces a long list of charges, including vandalism, first-degree burglary, auto theft, reckless driving, kidnapping and obstruction of public order.

After leaving the restaurant with an unpaid bill, National Park Service rangers tried to stop him and he crashed his car. He got out, stripped down to his underwear, stole a bicycle and barricaded himself in a nearby shack while holding the staff hostage at knifepoint.

The saga continued after he stole the lodge manager's car, escaped onto the highway and crashed again. He was eventually arrested by the police. They took him to the hospital where he attacked them.

Jeremy Briese, the sheriff of Mariposa County, California, said in a statement that the man had been “driving throughout our county, terrorizing our visitors and community members.” He called the behavior “erratic and dangerous.”

It's hard to believe, but no one was seriously injured in this lengthy fiasco.

According to the Los Angeles TimesIn his voicemail message, Mehlhaff “told law enforcement and psychologists to fuck off and stop trying to contact him.”

There have been some recent run-ins with the law that have really made us raise societal questions, from car sex gone wrong to mail laced with fentanyl, but a punk singer's high-speed chase through America's most famous national park takes the cake.
