Enchanting's cause of death announced after rapper died at 26

The cause of death of rapper Enchanting has been announced.

The aspiring hip-hop artist died at the age of 26 from the toxic effects of oxycodone and benzodiazepines, a spokesperson for the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed to PEOPLE. The cause of death is listed as an accident.

Benzodiazepines are sedatives that can relieve anxiety. According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the most commonly used prescription drugs are Valium, Xanax, Halcion, Ativan and Klonopin.

Her cause of death was first reported by TMZ.

The “Issa Photoshoot” musician reportedly died in a hospital after life support was withdrawn.

Gucci Mane confirmed the death of his former artist (whose real name was Channing Nicole Larry) via an Instagram post on Tuesday, June 11, writing alongside a photo of her, “So sad to have to say RIP to such an amazing young lady.”

“A true star, we will all miss you Chant @luvenchanting 😢 💔,” added the 44-year-old founder of 1017 Records (born Radric Delantic Davis) about his protégé.

A representative of Enchanting's management team said in a statement provided to The Shade Room that she was suffering from withdrawal symptoms and had overdosed at the time of her death.

“She's been coming to my house for the last four days to get clean,” the spokesperson told the outlet. “She's been trying her best and I've done everything I can to help her, she's been trying.”

According to Enchanting's 1017 Records profile, which is still active on the label's website, she began pursuing music after graduating high school at the age of 18. This resulted in “a little mixtape” titled Love and drugsthat “both promoted her career and her passion for music.”

According to a 2022 interview with BeingHowever, the “No Luv” artist wasn't always sure if music was her calling. “I went through a phase where I did absolutely everything. For example, I was a cheerleader and at some point I became interested in sports,” she recalls of her teenage years. “At some point I did hair and tried to do nails.”

But music eventually stuck with the rapper, who originally had a passion for R&B. “I had a friend and he had a friend who owned a studio and people knew I could sing,” Enchanting explained. “I didn't start posting my vocals until later in high school.”

The late star signed to Gucci Mane's 1017 Records in 2020, where she was at one point the only woman, but left the label after dropping her 2022 project. No loveper Complex. The deluxe version of the album, Love scarred/No lovereleased in 2023, was her last full-length release.

In addition to six feature-length projects throughout her career, Enchanting was also featured in HBO’s Rap shit Soundtrack of the second season, released last fall on Issa Rae's label Raedio.
