Airbnb Experiences: Hang out with celebrities and stay in famous homes

Airbnb is constantly expanding its horizons.

I have seen many interesting offers on the platform, but also some surprises. Did you know that some hotels can offer their rooms on the platform? And that you can also find rental properties designed by world-famous architects there?

It's all on the agenda… but that's not all Airbnb has to offer in 2024.

I recently reported on one of Airbnb's newest offerings: an exclusive stay in a Polly Pocket-themed home developed by Mattel.

It's unclear how long Airbnb will offer this unique rental in Littleton, Massachusetts, but to make the offer even more attractive, Airbnb is also offering day-long adventures (called “playdates”) in the compact accommodation.

This brought me to one of Airbnb’s newest and most fascinating ideas: offering exclusive experiences specifically for tourists.

Would you like to take a look for yourself? Go to the main page and click on “Experiences” next to “Stays” in the top middle of the page.

You will be taken directly to a page with Airbnb's most conspicuous non-rental listings.

A few days ago, bookings closed for a speakeasy experience with Kevin Hart. The experience will take the lucky few to a Grand Coramino-centric hangout session at a chic Los Angeles lounge. (Gran Coramino is Hart's personal tequila line, by the way.)

If you're interested, there's also a makeup session with Doja Cat available to book in October, as well as a rental of Prince's Purple Rain residency in September.

While we wait for new experiences from the world's most comprehensive rental platform, I'm taking a look back at some of the coolest experiences that have launched so far. (How the hell did I miss those?! Guys, I have retro FOMO.) Remember, these rentals are locked, which means you unfortunately can't apply to stay.

Home Alone

This is what Kevin McCallister's Chicago suburban villa from the 1990s looks like Home alone.

It's a cozy getaway in every way—but you also get to relive some of the film's best moments. As Airbnb puts it, you can “let out your inner 8-year-old Kevin,” which means eating deep-dish pizza and watching the best trash on TV.

And the best part: the host is Buzz.

The last blockbuster

In case you didn't know, there's one last Blockbuster still operating in Bend, Oregon. It's something of a cultural icon—and yes, you can still rent movies there.

This experience lets guests relive the 1990s (I sense a nostalgic theme here) with movie marathons, ghost summoning, and bean bag lounges. Plus, guests go home with plenty of blockbuster stuff. That is, assuming they don't die at the hands of Bloody Mary first.

Musée d'Orsay

There are almost a dozen world-famous museums in Paris – and the Musée d'Orsay is one of the most famous, housing works by Monet, van Gogh, Degas, Renoir and others.

But this stay is not only about spending the night in a historic-level museum. Created in anticipation of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, this package offers guests the opportunity to watch the games and dine overlooking the Seine.

To put it bluntly, it sounds almost too extravagant and life-changing for Airbnb.

Shrek's Swamp

I'm torn. As someone with a lot of donkey energy in me, I should absolutely buy this very lavish (and frankly stunning) Airbnb – should it ever come back on the market. In addition to fresh, hot waffles in the morning, guests get access to a fantastic location in the Scottish Highlands.

I just have one very serious problem: sunbathing in something called “earwax candlelight.”

Ferrari Museum

I am a Formula 1 fan who appreciates Ferrari (and Charles LeClerc in particular). Or, if not Ferrari, then the kind of passion that the Tifosi of Formula 1 are known for.

This Airbnb stay gives hardcore fans the chance to sleep in a Ferrari-quality leather bed—and, more importantly, the chance to go from 0 to 100 (km/h, not mph) in under three seconds.

Oh, and tickets to the infamous Emilia Romagna circuit. If you're an F1 fan, you'll know how incredible the whole deal is.
