Overworked correctional officers demand action to resolve staffing crisis in Michigan's prisons

JACKSON COUNTY, MI — Not many correctional officers protested near the Parnall Correctional Facility in Jackson Thursday afternoon, but that wasn't for a lack of interest.

The need to do more to address staffing shortages in Michigan's prisons was highlighted by the fact that only about 20 correctional officers participated in the Aug. 29 protest at the intersection of Parnall and Cooper streets because many others were inside the facility working mandatory overtime, union officials said.
