New Delhi, Aug 30 (PTI) – A man was arrested on Friday for allegedly running an illegal LPG cylinder depot in north Delhi's Narela area, police said.

Police said they had seized at least 529 gas cylinders, nine gas pumps, two electric power tools and five commercial vehicles used to transport the gas cylinders from the warehouse.

Santosh Kumar Bhagat (47), a resident of Sanjay Colony, was already involved in 15 criminal cases, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Ravi Kumar Singh.

During the search of the warehouse, around 529 gas cylinders, including commercial and private ones, were stored in the warehouse.

“Nine electric pumps were used to fill the commercial gas cylinders from domestic gas cylinders. The Food Safety and Consumer Affairs team was informed and called to the spot,” Singh said.

“All gas cylinders have been handed over to the Gas Agency for 'superdari' (supervision) by the Food Safety Inspector,” the official added.

A case has been registered under the Essential Commodities Act. Further investigation is underway. PTI SHB ALK HIG
