Dalit girls from Farrukhabad commit suicide after being cheated by their boyfriends, two youths in court

Deaths in Farrukhabad: New details have emerged in the case of the death of two Dalit girls in Farrukhabad, India's Uttar Pradesh state; police have arrested two boys in connection with the case.

The two arrested boys have been identified as Deepak and Pawan. They are believed to have been in a romantic relationship with the deceased girls. The bodies of two Dalit girls were found hanging in an orchard in Farrukhabad.

On Wednesday, police said the autopsy had shown that the two died by hanging and that it was a suicide, although their families suspected foul play. They said the autopsy findings were consistent with their initial investigation into the case.

According to a report by News 18, police said the girls found out that the two boys were cheating on them with other girls, after which they committed suicide. The two arrested in the case will be produced in court on Saturday.

Earlier, police had said the girls, aged 15 and 18, had left their homes around 10 pm on August 26 to visit a nearby temple on the occasion of Janmashtami festival, but had not returned, news agency PTI reported. On Tuesday, the families of the deceased demanded a CB-CID investigation into the matter.

Both the officials met the family members and assured them that the case would be investigated speedily. After that, the families agreed to perform the last rites of the deceased, they added. The bodies of the teenagers were found outside a village in Kayamganj police station area of ​​Fatehgarh on Tuesday morning.

According to police, the girls were close friends and lived in the same neighbourhood. The bodies were hanging from two “dupattas” tied together, they said.

No external signs of injury found, says chief physician

Senior Medical Officer Avnindra Singh said the girls died by hanging and no external signs of injury were found.

“The postmortem was conducted by a panel of doctors. They (the girls) died by hanging. No external injury marks were found on the bodies,” the CMO said. “The panel of doctors has sent samples of vaginal fluid to the laboratory to rule out the possibility of rape,” the CMO further said.
