New Delhi, August 31: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a prime suspect in an international conspiracy to radicalise youth and establish an Islamic caliphate in India, an official statement said on Saturday.
Aziz Ahamed alias Aziz Ahmed alias Jaleel Aziz Ahmed was reportedly arrested at Bengaluru International Airport on Friday while trying to flee abroad.
According to the NIA statement, the arrest was made as part of a case registered by the agency against six individuals influenced by the extremist, radical and fundamentalist ideology of Hizb ut-Tahrir – an international pan-Islamist and fundamentalist organization that fights for the establishment of an Islamic caliphate and the enforcement of the constitution written by its founder Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani.
According to the NIA investigation, the accused had “conducted secret bayanas in which many participants, especially gullible youth, were radicalised with the ideology of Hizb-ut-Tahrir, which seeks military support from forces (Nusra) hostile to India to achieve its nefarious goals”.
Aziz Ahamed was one of the main initiators of the secret “Bayaans,” the NIA said. (PTI)
