Hopkinsville Police Arrest Man on 68 Counts of Distribution of Obscene Material

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (KFVS) – A man was arrested by Hopkinsville police after a nearly two-month investigation.

According to Hopkinsville Police, John “Jay” Smith was arrested by detectives and officers from the Hopkinsville Police Department's Crime Stoppers Unit on August 30. Smith was arrested on a warrant charging him with 68 counts of “distribution of obscene material in more than one unit.”

This arrest follows a nearly two-month investigation into cybercrimes against children led by police detectives.

According to Hopkinsville police, Smith was previously arrested in Ohio for sex offenses.

Hopkinsville Police were assisted by the Montgomery County, Ohio Sheriff's Office and the Kentucky State Police ICAC Task Force.
