Report: US police arrest Indian man for murder of Nepali student in Houston

US police have arrested a 52-year-old man of Indian origin, Bobby Singh, for allegedly shooting a 21-year-old student from Nepal during a robbery in her apartment, reported NDTVciting the New York Post.

According to the report, police said Nepali student Muna Pandey was found with multiple gunshot wounds in her Houston apartment around 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Staff at the apartment complex said they received an anonymous call about a dead body in the apartment, police said. When staff arrived, the body was already presumed dead.

But two days later, police released a photo of Shah caught on surveillance camera leaving her apartment on Saturday. Later that day, he was arrested in a traffic stop and charged with murder.

NYP cited a GoFundMe page as saying that Pandey moved from Nepal to attend Houston Community College in 2021. The Nepalese Association of Houston member even added that her mother had been trying to reach her for days.

“Her mother said her phone was always online. After Saturday night, the phone was offline. She had been shot three times and was lying on the bed with her head down. Hopefully the investigation will shed light on how this happened.” NYP quoted the person as saying.

In the meantime, the Nepali Consulate and the Nepali Association of Houston are working together to make travel arrangements for Pandey's mother to come to Houston.

“We are turning to you, our community, to help bring Anita to the United States so she can say goodbye to her only child and give Muna the send-off she deserves. Funds raised will be used to cover Muna's funeral expenses and bring her mother to Houston so she can be with her daughter's body for final rituals,” reads the GoFundMe page, which has reportedly raised nearly $30,000.
