Mother stabbed to death and chef with head injury dies days after Notting Hill Carnival attacks | UK news

Two people died in separate incidents at the Notting Hill Carnival last weekend after being attacked.

Cher Maximen, 32, was at the event with her child last Sunday when she was stabbed. She died this morning.

According to police, officers provided emergency care to Ms Maximen until the emergency services arrived. She was then taken to hospital in critical condition.

“Cher was at the carnival with her young child,” said Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila of the Metropolitan Police Homicide Squad.

“We have been in close contact with our local partners and Cher's family since shortly after this incident to ensure the child is safe and well cared for.”

The chef, a Swedish national who lived and worked in Dubai, was found unconscious with a head injury in Queensway on the evening of last Monday.

Mr Imnetu, who previously worked under Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Wareing, leaves behind an eight-year-old son.

“He was a keen footballer and famously relied on his now eight-year-old son to sample his culinary masterpieces,” said his employer, The Arts Club.

“Mussie will be sorely missed by the entire Arts Club team. His legacy will live on through the passion and excellence he instilled in those around him,” a statement continued.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan reacted to the news of the deaths, saying it was “heartbreaking”.

Shakiel Thibou, 20, of Masbro Road, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with attempted murder of Ms Maximen.

He was taken into custody.

DCI Gammampila, who is leading the investigation into Ms Maximen's death, said: “My thoughts are with Cher's loved ones as they come to terms with this terrible loss.

“They are supported by specialist officers and we will ensure that this support continues.”

Regarding Mr Imnetu, Omar Wilson, The 31-year-old from Leytonstone was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and remanded in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who is leading the investigation, said: “Mussie's family, friends and colleagues in London, Dubai, Sweden and Eritrea are heartbroken after receiving the worst possible news.”

Police said they were keen to speak to anyone who could help reconstruct Mr Imnetu's movements between 1pm, when he left the Arts Club in Dover Street, and his arrival at Dr Power's restaurant in Queensway at 10.30pm.

“If you visited the restaurant on Monday evening between 10pm and 11.30pm or were in the area and saw anything, regardless of the reason for your visit, please come forward,” the DCI said.

London Mayor Khan said in a statement: “My thoughts are with their families and friends at this truly terrible time.

“This violence is shocking, totally unacceptable and a betrayal of the values ​​that the (Notting Hill) Carnival was founded to celebrate.”

Notting Hill Carnival organisers said they were “shocked by these tragic deaths” and their condolences were with the victims' families and the local community.

“We stand together against all violence and condemn these acts, which violate all the values ​​of Carnival and the millions of people who come to celebrate it.”

The Arts Club expressed its “deep sadness” at the confirmation of the death of Mr Imnetu, who worked as head chef at Brasserie Dubai.

“After joining the Arts Club London in 2011, Mussie was involved in the opening of the club's Dubai location in 2020.

“Mussie was known for his passion, calm demeanor and kindness and truly embodied the essence of the club.”
