Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury: Family of Kolkata rape and murder victim under police ‘house arrest’

KOLKATA: West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Saturday accused the police of putting the parents of the alleged rape and murdered doctor under “house arrest”.

Chowdhury, who visited the deceased doctor's house and spoke to her parents, also claimed that the police offered the father money for a quick cremation of the body.

“I visited the family of the deceased doctor at their home and spoke to them for a long time. The police have put the family under house arrest. They are not allowing them to leave the house on various pretexts. The police have put up a barricade around them, the CISF has no idea about it,” Chowdhury told reporters.

“The Calcutta police had offered the father money on the instructions of the state government and told him that his daughter’s body should be cremated immediately,” Chowdhury alleged.
