Singer Shreya Ghoshal postpones concert in Kolkata due to RG Kar issue

Calcutta: Singer Shreya Ghoshal had cancelled her concert in Kolkata on Saturday due to the RG Kar rape and murder incident.

The top singer said via X and Instagram that she would postpone her concert in Kolkata from September to October as she was “deeply affected” by the “cruel and heinous” rape and murder incidents in the city.

“I am deeply saddened by the cruel and heinous incident that took place in Kolkata recently. Being a woman myself, the mere thought of the brutality she had to go through is unimaginable and sends shivers down my spine. It is with aching hearts and deep sadness that my promoters and I wish to postpone our concert 'Shreya Ghoshal Live, All Hearts Tour Ishq FM Grand Concert', originally scheduled for September 14, 2024, to a new date in October 2024,” Sheya's statement said.

In her statement, she also pointed out that the existing ticket would remain “valid” for the new date.

Notably, the concert was scheduled to take place on September 14 at the Netaji Indoor Stadium and the tickets were priced at Rs 1,749.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh welcomed Shreya's decision and said there should be protests everywhere as the incident was not only a problem in West Bengal but all over the world.

Incidentally, Ghosh had sharply criticised Bengali actor and singer Arijit Singh on Friday for not standing by Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee's side during the difficult hours.

Ghosh even claimed that films in Bollywood were being made in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Ghosh posted a poster of Hindi film 'The West Bengal Diaries' in X and asked, “The release of this film today is ruining the image of Bengal. Misrepresentation, defamation, social innuendo, sedition. Will the Tollygunge industry, especially those associated with our party, not protest? The film was released today. Will they sit in silence today? Bengali industry will not protest?”

About singer Arijit Singh, Ghosh said Singh was a good singer and human being and asked why he did not sing a song on the recent Badlapur and Sakhsi Malik incident.
